New River Headwaters LLC runs a free flood-alert service for creeks in the New River headwaters. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

What we collect

When you sign up for alerts, we store:

• Your name, so we know who we're talking to.
• One contact address — a mobile number, an email address, or a Pushover user key, depending on how you asked to be reached.
• The place you chose to be alerted about, and whether you live there or travel through it.
• Your alert preferences — quiet hours, and whether you want the early heads-up.
• Proof that you agreed — the date and time, the IP address your signup came from, and the exact wording that was on the screen when you agreed to it.

That last item exists because mobile carriers require us to be able to show that every person we message asked to be messaged. It also protects you: if anyone ever questions whether you signed up, the record answers it.

What we don't collect

We don't ask for your address, your date of birth, or any payment information — the service is free. If you use the coverage map on our home page, your location is worked out inside your own browser and is not sent to us or stored.

What we do with it

We use your contact address to send flood alerts for the place you chose, and nothing else. We don't send marketing, newsletters, or messages on behalf of anyone else.

We use aggregate, de-identified information — how many people are subscribed, how many alerts went out, whether they were delivered — to check the system is actually working.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for marketing. Mobile information and opt-in consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing purposes.

We use a small number of service providers purely to deliver messages you asked for:

• Twilio — sends text messages and verification codes.
• Pushover — delivers push notifications, if you chose push.
• An email provider — delivers email alerts, if you chose email.

Each one receives only what it needs to deliver your message. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or if it is necessary to protect someone's safety during an emergency.

Where it's kept, and for how long

Subscriber information is stored on a private server, is not reachable from the public internet, and is accessible only to the operator of the service. We keep your information for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep a minimal record of the opt-out itself — that's what stops us from ever messaging you again by mistake, and carriers require us to honour it permanently.

Delivery records — which alert was sent, to which channel, and whether it arrived — are kept so that we can answer the question "did the warning actually reach anyone?" after an event.

Your choices

• Stop text alerts — reply STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help.
• Stop email alerts — use the unsubscribe link in any email.
• See, correct, or delete what we hold about you — email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.

Children

This service isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. The consent wording in force when you signed up is stored with your record and doesn't change retroactively.
